Direction and location words

shànɡ / xià / qián / hòu / zuǒ / yòu / dōnɡ /nán / xī / běi / zhōnɡ jiān / lǐ / wài / pánɡ 
上       / 下  / 前    / 后    / 左  / 右    / 东   /南  / 西 / 北  / 中       间   / 里 / 外  / 旁 

often combine with suffi xes such as       边 (biān), 面 (miàn), and 头 (tóu).

Noun/Pronoun + direction/location words 

车 上边/上面/上头 chē shàngbian/shàngmian/shàngtou(on the top of the car)  
车 下边/下面/下头 chē xiàbian/xiàmian/xiàtou (at the bottom of the car)

前边/面/头(qiánbian/mian/tou)(front)
后边/面/头 (hòubian/mian/tou) (back)

里边/面/头 lǐbian/mian/tou (inside)
外边/面/头 wàibian/mian/tou (outside)

左边/左面 zuǒ biɑn / zuǒ miàn (left side)
